World’s largest hydro power plant : The Three Gorges Dam

Hydro power means process of generating electricity by using the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. Today it is the most widely used renewable energy source. But when we compared with other power sources currently hydropower approximately generates 20% of the world's electricity requirement. 

The Three Gorges Dam

Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydropower plant which located in the Yiling District of Yichang, in Hubei province, China. It has capacity around 22.5GW. Three Gorges Dam having 26 turbines of 700 MW totaling 18.2MW which completed in 2008 and the engineers planning to expand the capacity to 22.5GW on 2012.  Chines government estimate that Three Gorges Dam project will cost around US$ 22.5 billions and the government expecting to recover the cost within 10 years.
